German captain confident Germany would win on penalties

German captain Philipp Lahm has warned England that a penalty shoot-out will suit Germany on Sunday and that it will suit them as they will be better prepared.
"Maybe it will go to penalties - that could suit us," he told FIFA.com.

Ghana 1 Australia 1: Unlucky Australia battle for point
Saturday, 19 June 2010 18:09
We use the word unlucky because Australia really didn't have anything go their way today and they really did deserve something after that performance and after the humiliation they suffered at the hands of Germany last time out.
For a moment, luck was on their side. Australia were awarded a free kick 28 yards out after 11 minutes and the free kick bounced in front of Kingson and he was unable to pick it up. It dropped kindly for Brett Holman who put it in the goal for 1-0.

Ghana v Australia, World Cup Group D, Match 25

I'm really looking forward to this game because it is too difficult to predict and I've no idea what is going to happen. Half of me thinks that Ghana should win and the other half thinks that the Aussies must have enough English in them to be better at football, then I think about the England performance against Algeria last night and break down in tears, so I've stopped thinking 50/50 and I'm thinking Ghana.

Germany 0 Serbia 1: A rather dull affair
Friday, 18 June 2010 14:32
I'm not sure what happened in that match. Germany didn't look like the Germany that beat Australia the other day, they looked more like a team who knew it didn't matter. Well it does matter, unless they know something I don't and I were German I'd feel a little let down by that performance.
It all went a bit wrong in the first half. Klose picked up his first yellow card in the 13th minute and I have to say, it was a bit harsh. He was chasing Branislav Ivanovic and clipped his foot - no intention, no malice - just what happens every now and then in a football match.

Germany v Serbia, World Cup Group D, Match 21

Germany were the only team that really impressed in the first round of matches when they thrashed Australia and while that could be because it was Australia, they still impressed - but it turns out they could have an advantage over many other teams.
You see, the German league have played with the new World Cup 2010 ball for the past season.

It was not a red card - Bastian Schweinsteiger
Last Updated on Thursday, 17 June 2010 23:18 Monday, 14 June 2010 06:24
Australian midfielder Tim Cahill broke down in tears last night after he was sent off in Australia's 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Germany in Group D at the World Cup.
Cahill was fairly harshly red carded in the 56th minute for a challenge on Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Germany thrash Australia with some excellent football

You have to feel sorry for Australia. Not just because they were beaten, but because it was so convincing. Germany had something to prove tonight and I think the message is loud and clear; they are ready.
Germany were excellent. There is no other word for it, just excellent. I could quite happily watch that game again tonight and I think I might. Yes, the opposition were not world class but Australia are no mugs and they could still do well in this tournament. It was just that Germany were, I'm using the word again, simply excellent.
